FAQ

aka terms of service

What is this site?

This site has a list of small and bigger things I’m offering. Most of it I’m giving away for free. For some items I may ask something in return. If an item is not free, it will be clearly stated. The tags of an item will also tell you if it’s free or not.

How does it work?

  1. Read this page so you understand the “terms of service”, if you can call them that.
  2. Look around, click on items for more info. See if there’s anything you like.
  3. Note the lot/item number.
  4. Open this Google form in a private window. Provide something by which I can recognise you and the item number.
  5. If you were the first to respond, I will contact you to exchange the item.

Everything is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Responding gives you a chance to get that item, not a guarantee.

Why don’t you sell these items?

There’s a fair chance I’ve already tried and nobody was interested. In other cases I just don’t feel the remaining value is worth the effort of dealing with random buyers with expectations and I’d rather just give it away to people I know.

Why not use eBay, Craigslist, Vinted, Marktplaats, Gratisoptehalen, lala for giving things away?

  • In a lot of cases I already tried and nobody was interested.
  • I wanted to handle it in a smaller setting ;) and give people I know the first choice.
  • Some big platforms do not allow or support offering free stuff at all.
  • If packaging and shipping can be prevented I’d like that. People who look here will probably be in a place I visit every so often so I can just drop it off.
  • Also, I wanted to see how much time it would take me to set up this with a static site generator.

Do you offer any guarantees or services?

There’s litte guarantees I can offer but I can say that:

  • I won’t list any items of which I already know it’s never going to work.
  • I do my best to clearly list any issues an item has (and that I’m aware of) in the description.
  • I update the site every now and then.
  • It’s all best effort.

Can you provide me with (more) photos, information, resources?

I might not get around to that. Also, someone else might respond earlier and therefore get the item.

An item I’m interested in sais “[reserved]”. Can I still fill in the form for it?

I’d recommend still using the form. If the person who expressed their interest first does not want the item in the end, I know I can contact you.

Some of these items are (like) new!

Yes, an item may still be in its original packaging or unused. But even that is no guarantee the product is undamaged or works 100%.

Do you want something in return?

No, thanks. I have enough stuff and am not looking for anything right now. If you really want to do something, you can also donate to a good cause.

Do you happen to have [insert item description] laying around?

You can always ask! If you are on this site you know where to find me.

How will I get my item?

Preferably I’ll bring it with me to the office or when I come to visit you.

When will I get my item?

The next time I’m visiting you or the office again.

Can you package the product and ship it to me?

Generally, no. I might make an exception. Use the sheet to express your interest and note you want something shipped.

Proper packaging and shipping takes time and materials. I don’t have any materials so I would have to go look for them. The shipping would then cost money and I prefer not to exchange money for these items.

Can I return my item?

Generally, no. I might make an exception.

If you have received your item and it is not working for you then please:

  • Consider if the item may be of use to anyone else you know.
  • If the item is not defective, contact me so I can see if anyone else was interested.
  • Be creative.
  • Dispose of it in a sustainable way. See the end of this page for some options.

I’m done with my item. Do you want it back?

No, give it to someone else please. Or see the list below for other options.

What happens to an item if no one is interested?

If there’s no interest in an item after a while, I’ll consider other options such as:

  • Put it in the local street library.
  • Bring it to the second hand shop or charity.
  • Take it apart to see how it works.
  • Have it recycled.
